Plan and run a 360 assessment
Prepare people for a 360 feedback assessment
People need to know what is expected of them, how confidentiality works, and where to get help. Prepare both the people giving feedback and those receiving it.
Give everyone the practical information
Explain the purpose, response window, expected workload, and support contact. Tell subjects when reports will be available, who will receive them, and what happens after the assessment.
Show evaluators how to use the scale, save their work, return to the questionnaire, and complete their response. Make the instructions easy to find in the invitation or project brief.
Administrators can use Panoramic Feedback’s platform training to learn setup and reporting. Preparation for giving and discussing feedback should be led by the consultant or internal program team.
Teach people to rate from observation
Ask evaluators to consider the agreed assessment period and rate each behavior on its own merits. A recent event or an overall positive or negative impression should not determine every answer.
Encourage specific comments about work and its effect. “In our project meetings, decisions are often left open, which makes it hard to assign tasks” gives the subject something to examine. Personal labels such as “disorganized” provide much less direction.
Use a respectful tone. If a behavior has not been observed, follow the questionnaire’s instructions instead of guessing.
Explain the confidentiality arrangements accurately
Panoramic Feedback enforces confidentiality for confidential responses at the platform level. Administrators cannot link those responses to a named evaluator. Confidential ratings are reported by feedback group without evaluators’ names.
Some feedback, including a self-assessment or a single supervisor’s response, may be identifiable by design. Written comments can also contain clues to the writer’s identity. Explain these limits clearly and ask evaluators to avoid identifying details when they want their contribution to remain anonymous.
Confirm the report recipients and how results will be used. Direct project-specific questions to the organizer and link to the platform’s security and confidentiality information.
Prepare subjects for the report conversation
Explain that the report reflects colleagues’ observations and may contain different perspectives. Encourage subjects to look for patterns, ask for help understanding the results, and choose a few useful actions.
Arrange a facilitator or other agreed support before reports are released. Set an expectation of respectful discussion and no retaliation for candid feedback. Subjects should not try to identify the authors of confidential responses.
Before you move on
- Instructions and help contacts are easy to find.
- Evaluators understand the scale, assessment period, and useful comments.
- Subjects know the reporting arrangements and available support.
