Customizing Questionnaire Text

The Default Questionnaire Text page allows you to modify the default wording shown to responders when completing a questionnaire. This text appears above and below the questions in the questionnaire.

You can adjust the wording to suit your project, or replace it with wording in a language other than English. This helps ensure that the language used in your project aligns with your organization, client, or specific feedback context.

Use the “Adapted” field to input your custom text.


Why Customization Matters

Clear and appropriate wording in the questionnaire introduction and conclusion helps:

  • Improve responder understanding
  • Reduce confusion or misinterpretation
  • Increase the quality and usefulness of responses
  • Create a more consistent responder experience
  • Ensure language aligns with your organization’s terminology and culture

Thoughtful customization helps create a smoother responder experience and leads to more meaningful and reliable feedback.


Use of Special Codes

You can use the symbols listed in Special Codes (available under the Help menu) to instruct the system to automatically insert dynamic values, specific information, or formatting into the questionnaire introduction and closing text.

These codes:

  • Begin with an exclamation mark (!)
  • Are applicable to Introduction and Closing Text, not to the question list.
  • Are sometimes referred to as “bang codes”
  • Automatically insert information entered elsewhere in the project

These dynamic values save time and reduce manual editing by automatically inserting project-specific information that you have already entered elsewhere in the system.

For example, codes !2 to !13 can automatically insert information such as:

  • Your client organization’s name
  • The full name of the Subject receiving feedback

These codes automatically personalize each questionnaire as it appears online for responders.


Tips for Customizing Text

When customizing questionnaire text and instructions:

  • Keep wording clear and concise
  • Use language that is familiar to your audience
  • Avoid overly technical or complex terminology
  • Ensure the tone is professional, respectful, and neutral
  • Review the text from a responder’s perspective before launching
